A new member to the Farm

We have decided to get one more ram this year. Its really hard to find breeding stock not related to each other in the state. We could go outside the state but then you have to deal with allot of red tape.  This little guy, shown with his mother, is just two days old in these pictures.  We can now start breeding this fall.

We still haven't decided on a name. Any ideas?

This little guy is joining us in June. His name is "Dude"

Jackson Hole!

Last year we went through Jackson Hole Wyoming on our way home from Yellow Stone. I just fell in love with it. We both wanted to come back. So this Spring Break we went back. Hubby went sking and I  went dog sledding. Here are some pictures!

Hubby, Our Daughter and my Brother in law
 Showing off his moves

While half the family was sking the other half went dog sledding. It was really fun!  I have to admit that Im not sure what I think about how the dogs live. This dog sled company has 165 dogs. The dog are taken good care of but I was surprised by the spools  for the dogs homes.

Just in case you were wondering if the went to the bathroom while running. The answer is yes!!

We got to mush the dogs!

Mothers Day Weekend

So, what did you do this weekend?  Even though us Mothers have a day just for us, we know that our Mom duties don’t stop for the occasion.  The same goes for Fathers Day.  We had a busy weekend.
On Saturday we went to a plant sale to support our local library. There was so much great stuff.  I was in plant heaven!

We then came home to a large project.  We had to put up 300 feet of field fencing through a labyrinth of sticker bushes. Our critters have finally eaten their way out of the wooded portion of our farm after two years. We had to cut-up the downed trees and hack through a lot of brush, but we got it done. We had one minor accident with me hitting my husband in the back of the head with a T-post , but he's here to talk about it.

On Mothers day I woke up to breakfast in bed. My Daughter ( with the help of my husband) cooked a really good eggs Benedict. It had heart shaped eggs, Canadian bacon, tomato, grilled onion, avocado and of course hollandaise sauce!!! TASTY!
Later that day I had to take our Daughter to the Doctor to get a brace on her ankle. There’s nothing like going to the Doctor’s office on a Sunday afternoon on Mothers Day.

Bee's, Bee's, and More Bee's

Bee's !!  That little word can put fear into some people. My Husband is one of those people. He does not like bees! He had a bad experience growing up. I too had a bad experience as a kid. I was stung on the boob when I was in the 6th grade. I was riding my bike and a bee flew up my shirt and stung me. I was so embarrassed. Think about it, you’re already confused about all the changes that are going on with your body and now a bee has stung you on a body part that you don't quite understand why you have. Now you have to lift up your shirt to show your parents!

Over the past year I have gotten my husband to be O.K. with adding a bee hive to the farm. We put the hive in our garden. I bought the bees from Trees and Bees and the Honey and Hive Company put the hive in for me. Over the summer the H&H Co. will teach me how to take care of the hive. Here is the process.

The bee's arrived in the back of a car.  One box will be put in our hive. The other 4 are going to a CSA down the street.

This is how the bees are shipped from California

Alf, our goat, wants to know what's going on.

Pulling the Queen bee out of the box.

The Queen is shipped in a wood and wire box. There is a wood plug at one end. You replace the wood plug with a marshmallow then put the box in the hive. The other bees will eat through the marshmallow to release the queen.

Dumping the bees in the hive. What a way to be welcomed home.

At this point the bees are mad. They are flying everywhere.

A little fact:: Bees don't poop where they live. ( I wish my dog knew that). The brown line on  the fence is bee poop.

                                  Home sweet home!

New member to our farm!

We decided to breed sheep. I love the idea of  having my own wool to spin. We bought two ewes ( girl sheep) from  Flying D farm. last year.  We will be bring this guy home next month. . We will breed the girls in the fall for lambing in the spring.
 This is "Dude"

His real name is The Big Lebowski.  "Dude" for short.. Why the name? I had nothing to do with it. This was my husband and kids idea. They named him after the movie. I have never seen it, nor want to. I will take my Husbands word for it thats its funny movie.

You ask: " Why The Rusty Tub"?

Here is the answer. We bought a couple claw foot tubs at Second Use in Seattle. The farm name came to us as we were planting them.

Master bath remodel

When we bought our house, we loved how the downstairs was finished but the previous owners stopped there. We are starting to work on the upstairs. Our first project is the master bathroom. We took out the old vanity and installed these two separate vanities. We decided to cover the wall in river rock to hide all the holes left from the old mirror.

The start of the river rock going up

To save some money, we didn't put river rock behind the mirrors. It also made it easier to hang the new mirrors.

We just need mirrors and grout

Its almost done, we just need to grout. The river rock will also be on the shower floor.
